Azerbaydzhani Republic: Yemin Kerimov
A Defence Ministry communique broadcast on 1 March 1993 reported that Yemin Kerimov, a private in the Azerbaydzhani army, had been sentenced to death for deserting the battlefield. It is not known when or where the trial took place or whether Private Kerimov has lodged an appeal against the sentence. The charge is presumably connected with the current armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. AI is appealing for the sentence to be commuted.
