Greece: health concern / prisoner of conscience: Nikos Maziotis
Nikos Maziotis, an imprisoned conscientious objector, has been on hunger- strike since 30 November 1992 in protest against his imprisonment. He was arrested on 16 October 1992 and will be tried on 12 January 1993 on charges of desertion and defaming the Greek armed forces. He is currently in the hospital wing of Pavlos Melas Military Prison, Thessaloniki. This is his second period of detention for conscientious objection. AI considers him a prisoner of conscience and is calling for his immediate release.
