Jeremy Bernardi, a Jehovah’s Witness, is serving two concurrent sentences of 15 months’ imprisonment because of his refusal, on grounds of conscience, to perform military service. He is a “total objector”, that is, he rejects civilian as well as military service on religious grounds. Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience and is calling for his immediate and unconditional release.
