Bulgaria: Amnesty International briefing: Refugees in Bulgaria trapped in substandard conditions
Since July 2013, Bulgarian media has reported on the rapidly growing numbers of refugees and migrants apprehended on the border with Turkey. Bulgarian authorities failed to take adequate measures to respond to the large number of people arriving in Bulgaria. They were, however, prompt in taking measures to enhance the policing of the border. People in the need of international protection have ended up living for months in substandard conditions without access to asylum procedure.
