Myanmar: Joint open letter on the prosecution of Shayam Brang Shawng

In this joint open letter Amnesty International, Fortify Rights, the Harvard Law School International Human Rights Clinic, Human Rights Watch, the International Commission of Jurists and Physicians for Human Rights raise concerns about the prosecution of Shayam Brang Shawng (known as Brang Shawng), an ethnic Kachin man who is on trial and facing criminal charges after he called on the authorities to investigate the role of the Myanmar Army in the death of his daughter, Ja Seng Ing. The letter calls calls for the charges against Brang Shawng to be dropped and for an independent, impartial and effective investigation in to the death of Ja Seng Ing. The letter was first sent on 8 December 2014 and made public on 18 December 2014.
