Elijah Page, white, aged 25, was executed in South Dakota shortly after 10pm local time on 11 July, in that state's first execution since April 1947. He had been sentenced to death in 2001 for the murder of 19-year-old Chester Allan Poage in 2000. Elijah Page, who was 18 at the time of the crime and emerging from a childhood of deprivation and abuse, had given up his appeals.
