USA: Abandon military commissions, close Guantnamo
For more than five years, Amnesty International has been calling for fair trials or release of the detainees held at the Guantnamo detention facility, while opposing the military commission systems proposed by the government. Since mid-2005, it has been calling for its closure and for any detainees who are to be charged to be brought to trial in the ordinary courts in the USA. This document includes a framework for an end to unlawful detentions which lists key points to be included in any strategy pursued by the US government.
