Argentina: Journalism, a dangerous profession: physical attacks, death threats and harassment of journalists in Argentina
AI is concerned about the resurgence of violence against journalists in Argentina in 1993. Attacks, death threats and other forms of intimidation increased in the months before the October parliamentary elections: between March and September 1993 the Argentine Press Workers Federation submitted to the Ministry of the Interior a list of over 100 incidents of threats and violence against journalists. Among those attacked were Hernan Lopez Echague, a reporter on the Buenos Aires daily Pagina 12; cameramen Alberto Albo and Hugo Fazio; assistant cameraman Miguel Garcia;and TV reporters Sandra Jacobson and Claudio Perez. A partial list of attacks and threats against journalists from September 1992 to November 1993 is appended.
