Medical letter writing action - Sudan: disappearances: Paulino Qumat, Stephen Daniel, Samuel Garang
Paulino Qumat, a pharmacy assistant, and Stephen Daniel, a veterinary surgeon, "disappeared" following arrest during a wave of detentions and killings in Juba in 1992. Samuel Garang, a member of the Sudan Nurses Trade Union, was arrested for the second time in 1993; he too has "disappeared". AI fears that they may have been detained in secret detention centres, known as "ghost houses". Detainees in these centres are reportedly at risk of torture and the conditions in which they are held are believed to be very poor. AI is calling on the Sudanese Government to clarify the fate of these three men.
