Sudan: Further information: Caller claims student activist has died
On 20 February, the mother of detained student activist Taj Alsir Jaafar received an anonymous phone call stating that her son had died. The Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) have refused to confirm this information. He has been on hunger strike since 11 February and his health has reportedly deteriorated. He has been detained without charge or access to a lawyer since his arrest in December 2011.
