South Africa: South African police negligence in xenophobic attack
On 4 January 2009 an armed crowd shouting abuse against foreign nationals raided a building inhabited by refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants in Durban city centre. Two people were killed and others injured. The police did not intervene until the attackers had left. Amnesty International is concerned at the apparent lack of any thorough, independent and public investigation into the conduct of the police during this attack.
