Sierra Leone's victims should not be forgotten simply because they have not been heard

, Index number: AFR 51/001/2007

Amnesty International welcomes the series of symposiums throughout Sierra Leone to remember the hundreds of thousands of victims of the 11-year conflict. One of the outcomes is symbolic reparation by the government establishing 23 March as National Victim's Commemoration day. Amnesty International was disappointed that the Statute of the Special Court did not follow the example of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court by authorizing the Special Court to award reparations for victims of crimes within its jurisdiction.
