End the death penalty in Belarus

Belarus is the last country in Europe and the former Soviet Union to carry out executions. As states increasingly reject this inhuman punishment, you can help make Europe a death penalty-free zone.

The death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. In Belarus, it is compounded by a flawed criminal justice system that violates international standards in its use of the death penalty.

Prisoners are reportedly tortured in order to extract "confessions" and denied access to an effective appeal. They are told they will be executed only moments before the sentence is carried out.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Centre Viasna and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee oppose the death penalty in all cases without exception.

We call on you to immediately establish a moratorium on executions and commute the sentences of all those on death row as a first step towards abolishing the death penalty.
