Since 2009 around 2,600 Roma have been forcibly evicted from their homes in Belgrade.

The families were not given proper notice or even genuinely consulted about the eviction but were instead moved into metal containers; or other informal settlements where they continue to be at risk of another forced eviction. Those who weren’t moved were made homeless.

In what is a positive step, the European Commission has agreed to fund permanent housing for around 1000 of those evicted, however the housing sites chosen by the City of Belgrade are on the very outskirts of the city where Roma will have little or no access to work as well as permanently resettling them in ethnically segregated housing

We need you to take action to persuade the Mayor of Belgrade, Dragan Djilas, to abandon the current proposed sites and instead identify sites that do not continue to racially segregate Roma families.
