বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় জল ছারা বাঁচা কল্পনাতীত হলেও বেশিরভাগ মানুষ ই তা থেকে বঞ্ছিত ।

Safe drinking water is everyone's right irrespective of religion, caste and status. Ita ytter shocking to learnt that most of the people across the world are yet to access to the clean and safe drinking water.Failure on part of govt mechanism and corruption in the system denying millions of people inaccessible to safe drinking water. It is the case with every developing country, who boasts of gearing towards rapid economical progress.I strongly believe that United Nations must take serious note of the issue and enlighten the nations across the globe to campaign against unhygeinic drinking water.

I really couldn't imagine having to go without water, it's also sad that even water is bottled at brought into capitalism.

Safe, clean, free water is a basic human right. Water is something we all need to survive just as much as we need air. We need it to nourish our bodies, prepare our food, clean our bodies, clothes and environment, grow our food, etc., etc. and it should therefore be available in a safe, clean, potable form to every living being. Charging a fee for water is akin to charging a fee for the air we breathe. The air is all around us, it comes with and is a natural part of our environment that we all need to live. If everyone who lives here had to pay a fee to partake of it, most people on earth would probably perish! Water is like our air--surrounding us, a natural part of our environment (not synthetic) that we should all need to partake of in order to live. Therefore, charging a fee for access to it or its consumption is wrong. No one created water, and no one should charge for it. I just got back from a year of outreach work and teaching in Ethiopia and Tanzania. There, I saw that safe, clean water was indeed for the rich, in a variety of bottled forms. Meanwhile, the poor must pay for and boil their water or drink it chock full of contaminants and heavy silt. That is wrong. If all water was safe, clean and free, then we would all have what we need to survive and the bottled water companies would likely go out of business except among the very elite who perhaps desire distilled spring water only. I have long felt that basic food supplies, water and shelter are basic human rights. No one should have to live on the street, sleep in the rain, starve and/or struggle for clean, safe drinking water. It is a disgrace that in these contemporary times, with all of our advanced education and "knowledge" we still struggle to find the basic common sense and decency behind age old wisdom that development is truly all for one and one for all.

I feel lucky, I am living in a poor country where having water is a sign of wealth. I am one of those wealthy people. If you have a glass of clean water, you should feel lucky because somewhere in a big island named Madagascar surrounded by water, only a few people can have that chance.

Human beings have human RIGHTS and one of them is the right to clean water!

October 18, 2011

"Water is a limited natural resource and a public good fundamental for life and health. The human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights." This is quotation from UN Economic and Social Council Comment on the right to water. So, international community acknowledges that living without water is impossible, but states, as always, unwilling to implement commitments they accepted by different treaties, in this particular situation regarding water, obligations under ICESCR. It is so painful to know, there are plenty of places in the world without possibility to use water resources. I think, everyone who has clean drinking water in the places they live cannot imagine life without it. International community implementing huge amount of projects regarding education, renewable resources and ect. Maybe they should start from one simple project by providing safe and clean drinking water for everyone. No one can survive without water.

Living without a safe, clean water in your home is a form dearth penalty, a violation of human rights.

October 17, 2011

living without clean drinking water is impossible for me , this is the basic need and right of every human being. In Pakistan there are places too where clean drinking water is not available mainly in the rural areas of provinces sindh and Balochistan , which are very underdeveloped and people are illiterate enough to not to boil the contaminated water before drinking. In most of the poor countries people in rural areas do not get clean water to drink like in Africa , and some south-Asian countries.

I honestly can't count how many times a day I leave the faucet running too long or dump out the "old" water in my cup to replace it with "new" water, and I can own up to the fact that I take water for granted. But I've grown up all my life with more than enough water so I've never really had to think of water as a privilege or a right. But I also agree that we should treat water as a right even if we don't suffer from lack thereof. I know that in a lot of places water is scarce or not fit to drink and people die because of this.

I watched an interesting movie last week entitled F.L.O.W. - For Love Of Water. Basically the film documents the horrid process of water privatization. There is big business that go into developing countries and take over the water distribution of those countries. The fact of the matter is, the people who can afford to pay for the water get it, but those who cannot often are forced to drink dirty contaminated water. It is a sickening process of deprivations of rights. The movie actually has a petition, quite similar to the ones found on this site, it is appeal to the U.N. to add water to the basic human right. Just imagine waking up thirsty and not drinking for the whole day. Some people send their whole day looking for water around the world and I cannot imagine what type of pain they feel when they come home empty handed. Some thing has to be done.

I think we can all agree that we take things like water for granted. As a growing world we need to realise it is not an abundant source. How many of us here can honestly say we never waste it? The fresh water crisis is real and needs to be addressed now. We need to take real steps to ensure, no human will ever be denied water. The fact that people dye from lack of water is disgusting. All humans deserve the basic necessities to live. For all those who agree start a fresh water campaign at your school, work or place of worship. Educate people on the need for water conservation. Its one thing to address it’s a real issue. It’s the right thing when you do something about it.

I could never imagine that. Every morning I wake up and have a shower and brush my teeth, I drink bottles and bottles of fresh water and use a clothes washer and dish washer. These always seemed so easy to me, I could not imagine life without it. Without safe and clean water, we would face so many health issues. This is a basic human right and need. It should be of a government's duty to protect it's people, and this would include supplying them with their basic needs.

shelter, water and sanitation should be basic rights of all humans. the basic problem is greed of the wealthy.

October 12, 2011

There is nothing life without water in all over world, but it is our bad luck that a numberless person in the world had no healthy water to drink or to use in there lively hood, We ever say that governments should do everything for us and nothing should do for us, therefore we always face the problems in our lives. Really it is impossible to imagine living with out water but what we are doing for this, just talking in meetings, and any where. and the fact is that we too responsible for wasting water in our homes. any government or any other organization is not responsible to provide us water if there's community didn't co operate with his governmental departments or organizations. Local community should take steps to safe the water resources in around them.

Having clean water is such an easy thing for me to take for granted because it's so accessible in America. I remember one time the power went out in my house and we were without a shower, TV, tap water, refrigerator, and numerous other mechanisms for a day - one day. And it was so difficult. But some people live their lives that way. It's not right.

Brazil

Tuvalu declared a state of emergency because of the dearth of potable water, many countries and communities are about to face the same problems here in Brazil there is something like the Brazilian northeast suffers decades with scant rainfall, it is essential to meet affirmative action we such difficult situations that lead humans to situations of extreme risk and degradation

October 4, 2011

We as humans need water to survive. Not just any water. Clean water. It's crucial to our survival. If our water supply is cut off, how will we live?

October 3, 2011

Of course water is a basic human right but what are we doing about it? the first question is... have we enough water to go around? the answer at the moment is probably YES. OK next, how do we make it accessible to everyone. this needs 3 inputs, TIME, EFFORT and MONEY but above all effort. What do I mean by effort? How do we geta ccess to water? All of us? Someone somewhere provides it to us via pipes and cleans it along the way. this needs know_how and machinery. Of course we must be sure that no one along the way will prevent us from having it; What I am saying is quite simple... let's not think about providing water, let's think about providing the mechanisms that will provide water today and tomorrow. is there really any better gift to a society?

Water is the secret of the life. Therefore, the Amnesty International must take action to ensure human rights to get on the most important source of life.

I hear people every day talk about how they "need" their soda or coffee, yet there are people who can't even get to water. This is maddening. Why is it that there is constantly an updated version of an iPod or cell phone, but people standing under the same sky as I am can't get someone to figure out a way to get them water? It is an outrage and simply wrong.

September 23, 2011

so! water consumption - as real indicator of the level of civilized society as a whole!

Whenever I hear someone complaining or whining over some silly superficial lack in their life, the first thing that always comes to mind is that there are so many who cannot even get a clean glass of water. We are spoiled in this country - it never seems to be enough. Whenever I get the "gimmes" I try to remember to think of those without. Having clean water to drink is NOT a priviledge - it is a right of all human beings.

September 23, 2011

Water is the most natural thing in the world .What is not natural is that after all these years clean drinking water from a tap or well is not readily available to everyone in the world. Times need to change. I hate it when the water i'm drinking is not chilled i cannot imagine having to drink dirty walk or having to walk for miles just to get it.

Yes, I agree! One of the basic human rights is a right to a clean enviroment, clean watter and of course, safe life and safe home!!! We have so much clean watter on this planet, that we just seem to ignore and not use is, but poluting it!!! So we gotta fight for this and all human rights for everyone! An impact would be huge! The cleaner enviromen is- the healthier life is!!! x0x0x0x0 Lots of friendly hugs from me and Serbia!

September 19, 2011

yes water is a basic necessity without which a human being can't even survive a week.Unfortunately large number of people are forced to live without potable drinking water especially in underdeveloped and developing countries. This water can lead to spread of numerous diseases and can ultimately lead to death. There are thousands of children all over the world who have never tasted a single drop of pure water in their lives. Its an important issue which the people of the world should come together and fight for.

September 19, 2011

I do agree, there must be clean and potable water for everyone and most of all it should be free at least a certain quantity let say 100 cubic meter per person per month. So at least the needy will not have additional invoices and will have the utmost basic.

i agree and i hope that you would take a look on the Nile problem

September 18, 2011

I agree! Basic human rights include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If people do not get proper sanitation, they open themselves up to diseases and sickness. This can bring about the end of some peoples lives and I think it is very, very imporant that every person has the right to fresh, clean water and proper sanitation in their household. Even if unsanitary systems only cause people discomfort and they don't get sick from it, they still deserve to have the option of cleanliness, because each person has a right to walk away from anything that causes them such discomfort.
