Mexico: Indigenous women and military injustice

This report focuses on the cases of six indigenous women who were reportedly raped by soldiers in the state of Guerrero in the last ten years. It examines the serious shortcomings in the investigations conducted by Mexican military prosecutors and the fundamental unsuitability of Mexico’s military justice system to investigate human rights violations committed by members of the armed forces due to its lack of impartiality and independence. The report also looks at deficiencies in other institutions involved in these cases and examines some of the problems posed by the large military presence of the Mexican army.
