Dominican Republic: Towards a successful reform? Proposals for an organic law to help bring about comprehensive reform of the national police in the Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic many factors limit the effectiveness, and contribute to the high level of distrust, of the police. Reform of the National Police is felt necessary in order to turn it into an institution that fully complies with its mandate to protect by observing international law, the Constitution and domestic legislation. Amnesty International contributes the proposals in this document at a time when a new draft of the Organic Law on the National Police is being considered.
