People’s Republic of China: The eighth anniversary of the 1989 massacre: those who have been silenced

This document describes Amnesty International’s concerns about the human rights violations which continue in China in relation to the 4 June 1989 crackdown on the pro-democracy protests. The document cites examples of people who are harassed or jailed for attempting to commemorate the victims of the crackdown or to monitor the human rights violations which resulted from it. It describes the cases of prisoners who are serving long prison sentences, imposed after unfair trials, for their activities during the 1989 protests. These illustrative cases include Bao Tong, Li Wangyang, Niu Shengchang, Sun Chuanheng, Yu Zhenbin and Zhao Junlu.
