2000 UN Commission on Human Rights – defending the defenders

The attached document describes the concerns which Amnesty International will raise at the forthcoming session of the UN Commission on Human Rights. Amnesty International is calling on the Commission this year to act on China, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia/Kosovo, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone where human rights abuses are grave, persistent and/or widespread. It also draws the Commission’s attention to the need to act on the thematic issues of child soldiers, the death penalty, the protection of human rights defenders, disappearances and the draft optional protocol to the Convention against Torture
