India: Vote for a new law on violence against women in India

The protests and public debate, which followed the rape and death of a 23-year-old student in Delhi in December 2012, have brought the need for better laws and practices addressing violence against women in India to national and international attention. In this open letter Amnesty International calls on the Indian government to support a new draft law that addresses violence against women in India, but which does not contain those aspects of the promulgated Criminal Law Ordinance 2013, or any other provisions, that violate India’s international human rights obligations.
