This document describes Amnesty International's concerns about a number of issues relevant to the agenda of the forthcoming Commission. These include human rights violations such as "disappearances", arbitrary detention, summary or arbitrary executions, torture and religious intolerance, dealt with by various UN "theme mechanisms". Information is given on AI's concerns in the 11 countries on the agenda of the 48th session, as well as on five other countries. Standard setting activities of particular interest to AI are reported. Other topics covered are: habeas corpus as a non- derogable right; international covenants on human rights; freedom of opinion and expression; public information activities; and the decision by the UN to convene a World Conference on Human Rights.
