Medical letter writing action: The death penalty in the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania)

This report gives information on the use of the death penalty in the above- named Baltic countries. Since gaining their independence in the period 1988-91, all have retained the death penalty, although for a reduced number of crimes. The information is based on the findings of an AI visit to the region in October 1992. AI is unconditionally opposed to the death penalty and urges the three Baltic countries seriously to consider abolishing the death penalty as part of their current judicial review.
