Malaysia: Unlawful killings, custodial deaths, torture, exploitation of migrants and continued restrictions of free expression and peaceful assembly: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

In this submission Amnesty International notes that Malaysia has failed to ratify a number of international human rights standards. The organization notes that some provisions in national law that infringed on human rights have been repealed or amended. However, new legislation places restrictions on the right to peaceful assembly. Amnesty International also raises concerns about the death penalty; freedoms of expression, association and assembly; arbitrary detention; unlawful killings by security forces, torture, ill-treatment and deaths in custody; exploitation of migrants; and non-recognition of refugees.
