Amnesty International is concerned with the punishments imposed \nby Taleban Shari'a courts in Afghanistan including the death penalty, amputations, flogging and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishments. The courts reportedly lack the minimum requirements for a fair trial - many of the judges are untrained in law, make swift decisions and there is no provision for legal council for the defendants. Many confessions are reported to have been made under torture. AI urges Taleban authorities to forbid the imposition of these punishments and to futher forbid the execution of any sentences already imposed.
