Sami al Hajj was a journalist working for the television station al-Jazeera. After an assignment to cover the conflict in Afghanistan, he was asked to return there from Pakistan to cover the inauguration of the new government. He and his crew were stopped by the Pakistani police before they reached the border. He was transferred from Pakistani custody to American custody, taken to Bagram airbase in Afghanistan and ultimately transferred to Guantánamo Bay. Action is called for so that allegations of torture can be investigated and for the detainees to be given full and trials or released.
