Uganda: Stifling dissent: Restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly in Uganda

The Uganda government and various public authorities have in recent years resorted to illegitimate restrictions on the exercise of the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly in response to some of the critical voices on a number of governance issues. This report highlights Amnesty International’s concerns about official repression of the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and the failure to hold perpetrators of human rights violations committed against political activists, journalists and civil society activists to account.
