The Sudanese authorities are using new forms of censorship in an effort to silence freedom of expression in Sudan. Since early 2011 the government has controlled the media by confiscating newspapers after they have been printed. Vendors have been prevented from distributing copies and financial losses have caused some newspapers to close down. In a clear crackdown by the authorities on all forms of dissent, many activists have also been harassed for participating in peaceful demonstrations and speaking out against the government.
