Liberia: A flawed post-war process discriminates against women and girls

The consequences of the violence and human rights abuses perpetrated against women and girls during conflict in Liberia are devastating. Many continue to suffer physically and mentally from the harsh and inhumane treatment they endured during the war. This report focuses on women and girls’ experiences with the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Development (LURD) armed opposition group and government security forces that were present in various parts of Lofa County. Within disarmament, demobilization, rehabilitation and reintegration (DDRR), women and children were dealt with through separate programmes and this report focuses primarily on adult DDRR.
