Kenya: “We are like rubbish in this country”: Forced evictions in Nairobi, Kenya

More than half the population of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, live in slums and informal settlements and forced evictions occur frequently. This photo exhibition focuses on two informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya: City Carton and Deep Sea. City Carton was demolished in May 2013 and some 400 families were forcibly evicted. Deep Sea is home to over 12,000 residents yet Kenyan authorities are planning a major road construction project which will affect around 3000 families living there. Residents could be at risk of a forced eviction.
