In April 2005 lawyer and human rights defender Mohammed Abbou was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after an unfair trial for publishing articles on the internet critical of the government. He was released on 24 July 2007 along with 21 other political prisoners to mark the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Tunisia. This document is based on a telephone interview given a few weeks later.
