Algeria: Briefing to the Human Rights Committee

Amnesty International submits this briefing for consideration by the Human Rights Committee in view of its forthcoming examination of Algeria’s third periodic report on measures taken to implement the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). This briefing summarizes some of Amnesty International’s main concerns. These concerns relate broadly to the failure of the state party to provide an effective remedy to victims of human rights abuses, continuing discrimination against women and a persistent pattern of secret detention and torture.
