Moldova: Unfinished business: Combatting torture and ill-treatment in Moldova

In April 2009 post election demonstrations escalated, police detained over 600 demonstrators indiscriminately and many more were beaten on arrest. The victims of police brutality are still waiting for justice. As long as justice for these victims remains unfinished business, the perpetrators of torture and other ill-treatment receive the signal that they can continue with impunity. In this briefing Amnesty International updates information and cases that have featured in previous reports and makes recommendations to assist the Moldovan government in tackling the problem of torture and other ill-treatment and in combating impunity.
