People’s Republic of China: Serious human rights violations and the crackdown on dissent continues

This document summarizes some of Amnesty International’s key human rights concerns on China, including: the increased use of the death penalty during the ‘strike hard’ campaign; an intensification in the crackdown on the Uighur community in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR); ongoing repression of the rights to freedom of expression, association and religion in Tibet; the continued crackdown on the Falun Gong spiritual movement; serious restrictions on rights to freedom of expression of large numbers of political activists and human rights defenders; ongoing restrictions on workers’ rights; and an intensification in the crackdown on North Korean asylum seekers in China.
