People’s Republic of China: Bringing China’s criminal procedure law in line with international standards

In this memorandum Amnesty International details some of the organization’s concerns with the Criminal Procedure Law Draft Revisions due for approval this month. These concerns include the death penalty, rights during investigations and trials as well as the right to liberty and security of person. Amnesty International considers that acceptance by the National People’s Congress of many of the articles discussed would bring China further from compliance with international legal standards, including the ICCPR which China has signed and indicated it intends to ratify.
