Amnesty International’s serious concern about reports of prolonged incommunicado detention of political prisoners is documented in this report. Hundreds of political prisoners, including possible prisoners of conscience, are said to have been held for up to nine years in prisons and interrogation centres. They are reported to be denied access to legal counsel and family visits. Torture is believed to be systematic. Five interrogation centres (Riasats) are examined in this report; these are alleged to have been particularly responsible for torture in recent years. Conditions in Blocks 1 and 2 of Pul-e-Charkhi prison, where those detained without any form of trial are sent, are also examined here.
