Nigeria: A summary of human rights concerns in 1990 (includes correction)

This document describes Amnesty International’s concerns in Nigeria in 1990. Over 120 executions took place in 1990, including those of 69 soldiers accused of involvement in a coup attempt in April. At least 106 death sentences were recorded. Over 60 civilians were held as prisoners of conscience without charge or trial following the coup: at least nine remained imprisoned at the end of 1990. Some appear to have been held because they were relatives of those suspected of involvement in the coup.
