Austria: Briefing to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Amnesty International submitted this information to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in advance of its consideration of Austria’s periodic reports. In particular, Amnesty International highlights the refusal of Austria to develop a National Action Plan against Racism; the failure to establish a National Human Rights Institution; the lack of an adequate mechanism to ensure a systematic follow-up and implementation of treaty body recommendations, including with an adequate involvement of civil society; and concerns regarding persisting institutional racism within the criminal justice system.
